Born in 1954 in Peoria, IL, Watts graduated with a B.S., magna cum laude, from Bradley University in 1976.  He attended law school at the University of Miami, where he earned his J.D. in 1979.  He was admitted to the Florida Bar and the U.S. District Court, and the Southern District of Florida in 1980 and 1984 respectively.  He was admitted into the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit in 1985.

Personal life

Dana and his wife Kelly were married in 1981 and they have three children: Meghan, Taylor, and Nicholas.
